A solution is a homogeneous mixture or two or more substances. The substances in a solution should not undergo chemical combination, because such a combination produces a compound, not a solution. The two constituents of solution are solvent and solute. Solvent is that component which is present in large proportion and Solute is the component of solution which is present in relatively small proportion. On the basis of type of solvent solutions can be of two types :-
Aqueous solution: A solution produced by dissolving a substance in water is known as the aqueous solution of the substance. For example, the solutions of sodium chloride, ammonium chloride and copper sulphate in water are all aqueous solutions of these substances. Some examples of aqueous solutions are cola, saltwater, rain, acid solutions, base solutions, salt solutions, etc. Some examples of solutions that are not aqueous solutions include any liquid that does not contain water.
Non Aqueous solution: There are some substances which can form solutions by dissolving in liquids other than water such as alcohol, acetone, carbon tetrachloride and carbon disulphide. Such solutions are called Non aqueous solutions. There are many solvents that contain no ionizable hydrogen and are called non protonic solvents. The examples of non protonic solvents are bromine trifluoride, sulfur dioxide, dinitrogen tetroxide, and phosphorus oxychloride.
Cola, saltwater, rain etc. are examples of _____________________
